Being Very Demure, Very Mindful on LinkedIn
It'll get you far
One the things I hate seeing on LinkedIn are people who appear fake.
They use AI to generate comments or re-write their comments.
They always say the same thing – Facts! – and don’t try to relate a person’s post with their comment.
I don’t know about you, but I want to be very demure and very mindful when I’m networking on LinkedIn 😃
I realize to win on LinkedIn and actually gain freelance writing clients you need to use the platform for networking.
Many of these newsletter here share tips on how to network, but I haven’t really talked about professionalism on LinkedIn.

So, here are my top tips on being demure and mindful on LinkedIn.
Don’t Like posts from marketers that are several months old.
I just saw a video on this tactic from another freelancer and I feel there is no point in that.
If the marketer posted their last post 6 months ago, I’m betting they don’t go on LinkedIn very much. The mindful thing to do is find them on another platform they use more readily and engage there.
Don’t skim a prospect’s business.
Another tactic I’ve been seeing online is to find the business on LinkedIn and then visit their website and take their main headline as information to connect YOU with them.
For example, beehiiv’s headline is: The newsletter platform built for growth. I would then use that in a LinkedIn connection saying something like, “Love what beehiiv is doing in the newsletter platform growth space.”
This is NOT demure and a content lead will see right through this. So, what is demure in this case?
I would take a few minutes reading the pages of the site, getting to know the product or service and checking out their blog. I would also find out their ideal customer or audience avatar.
Be mindful of ”reading the room.”
One of the things I often do is look through my LinkedIn feed and try to comment on posts from content managers or marketers.
But, sometimes I have to read the room. If most of the comments are from other marketers and they are commenting more of “inside” knowledge of the poster, then it’s not my place to add a comment.
I will like the post, though.
Be demure when connecting.
Don’t start using a generic template when connecting to your ideal clients. I see this too often when I read about LinkedIn tips for freelancers.
While I do have scripts for LinkedIn and X, I make it clear that these are frameworks for your to adapt, tweak and modify.
