LinkedIn: What Are You Really Here For?
the why behind it all
I’ve been on LinkedIn since 2014, before all the bro marketers found out about it.

Back then, you just needed a profile and the words “freelance writer” in your title and that was it.
No posting, no optimizing, nothing.
Your profile sat online and did all the work for you.
But, it’s a decade later and a pandemic happened and remote workers increased and that meant….more eyes on LinkedIn.
So, you have to do a little more to your profile and overall strategy on LinkedIn to make it as a freelance writer.
This all starts with one little question: what are you really here for?
Is it to:
Get tons of likes for each post?
Have a viral post?
Connect with influencers to collaborate with?
Spray and pray?
Many of these reasons shouldn’t be the REAL reason to be on LinkedIn.
Remember: Gaining many likes can inflate your ego, but it doesn't necessarily inflate your bank account.
I sometimes fall into this trap but I know that many of the clients that reach out to me on LinkedIn aren’t saying they found my posts and that why they DM’d me.
They actually never engaged with my posts, commented on an article or liked my content.
Yet they found me and DM’d me.
Why? Because I’m on LinkedIn to network and find high paying clients.
I’m not there to become chummy with other freelance writers.
I want my time spent on LinkedIn to gain me clients and if that’s what you want, then do the things that will get you there.
These are things like optimizing your profile, cold pitching the right way on LinkedIn, and marketing your service in every post.
Now, I’ll be honest with you, the last thing on that list is something I’m not doing but I should.
It looks like this:
This is what I NEED to do, so hopefully writing this helpful newsletter will get me to start this too!
Freelancing can seem lonely. It can also feel like we are competing.
Well, I’m not letting that happen and want to share what I’m doing as a freelancer.
In my Freelance Creator Files Newsletter, I will share my inner thoughts, my business income, and my strategies for freelancing and for creators.
I’m also toying with even value like video training, scripts and templates.
My next case study/challenge is already underway and I’m sweating bullets on this one.
