LinkedIn "About" Section for Your Writing Business

Do you have these things in place?

Have you taken look at your About section on LinkedIn lately?

It’s a piece of copy that often gets overlooked but it’s important as it helps to demonstrate your skill level, expertise and knowledge.

For the About section, you can write up to 2,600 characters but it’s not necessary to use all of it.

For my About section I used 1,872 characters.

When thinking about your About section ask yourself these questions:

✔️ Who is my reader?
✔️ What is my main idea?
✔️ What is my main offer?
✔️ What is the action I want my reader to take?
✔️ Which stage of awareness might they be at, and how do I reach them?

To help you out, here are some proven tips to help you write an optimized About section on LinkedIn.

➡️ Introduce yourself and make it known to the prospect who you are and who you serve. Write as if you’re speaking to them, so they get to know you and avoid 3rd person.

➡️ Focus more on what you do for clients (or share the results you produce) than things about YOU. In my About section, I created a section on my writing process to help clients see the detail I put into writing content for clients.

➡️ Make your About section aesthetically pleasing by breaking up large walls of text, and write for an online audience (aka short attention span).

➡️ Be as specific as possible in who your client is and how you can help them. Add testimonials if that helps.

➡️ Include where to contact you. I add my sites and email address.

➡️ End with a call-to-action, and provide the link for that (Discovery call, book an appointment, or a portfolio).

➡️ Review your skills and add them under your About section. You can show add up to 5 and these will help you “get known” on LinkedIn.

Freelancing can be tough.

Without a network of like-minded individuals to turn to, it's easy to feel disconnected and unsupported.

That’s why I created the Freelance Creator Newsletter.

I wanted to create a cozy community of freelancers where I can share my wins, fails, challenges and behind-the-scenes of my profitable business.

This is me being transparent and authentic.

I’m currently knee-deep in my pitching challenge and it’s going……..

This is a bi-monthly newsletter. Next one is this week on May 22!
