Posting on LinkedIn (Even When It Feels Pointless) Drives Hidden Leads

You have to post even with no engagement

The other day I read a X post that LinkedIn is a waste of time. Then I hopped onto Medium and saw similar views.

LinkedIn is filled with bro marketers. LinkedIn doesn’t even work because it’s over saturated.

LinkedIn is a waste….

Well, what I told you this isn’t the complete picture?

Engagement on your LinkedIn posts doesn’t tell the whole story.

For freelance writers, especially in B2B or SaaS, your clients are out there watching—even if they’re not liking, commenting, or sharing. Here’s why you should keep at it.

My mind exploded once I figured that out!

Hidden Viewers Are Often Your Hottest Leads

You might be surprised how often a lead will pop into your DMs and say they’ve followed you for a while.

They might be a marketing manager or even a corporate exec who won’t engage publicly, but they’re still noticing your posts.

And these leads can be more valuable because they’re warmed up—they’ve been seeing your expertise in action and are more ready to reach out when they need your services.

I go in spurts with my LinkedIn posting (I know, that’s bad, but man, I AM busy) and AS SOON AS I post, I get leads in my inbox.

Here are two current leads that suddenly landed in my inbox:

Both of these leads found me on LinkedIn and I can bet they read my posts but never commented on them once.

It’s Time to Be Consist. It Builds Credibility (Even When It Feels Pointless)

Every post is a small step toward establishing yourself as a go-to writer in your field.

Maybe you’re not seeing likes, but consistency in sharing insights, tips, or experiences on LinkedIn builds a professional image over time.

People who see your posts regularly will remember your name and expertise, and when they’re ready to hire, you’re already top of mind.

As I mentioned, I’m NOT consistent but I’m still getting leads. Why? Because I’ve been on the platform for a decade and I’m posting in other areas.

The second lead also knew I had a YouTube channel…and I post more consistently on that channel.

Corporate Clients Often Don’t Engage—But They Do Pay Attention

Bigger corporate clients rarely engage openly on LinkedIn because they often work behind strict brand guidelines.

But don’t let that fool you.

They are quietly observing and appreciating your work.

For them, seeing your regular posts builds trust in your skills and dependability—two big factors in deciding to hire someone.

Your Audience Is Broader Than You Think

Even if your immediate network doesn’t engage, LinkedIn’s algorithm can show your content to second- and third-degree connections.

These are people you may not even know but who could be searching for exactly the expertise you’re sharing.

Keep posting because every view, even if silent, is a potential opportunity.

Takeaway: Post consistently, provide real value, and trust that your visibility is working for you—even if it doesn’t seem like it.
